Celebrating LGBTQ Musicians in Chicago
We are part of the amazing community of LGBTQ musicians making contemporary music in Chicago. alejandro t. acierto is an artist, musician, and curator whose work is informed by human relationships to technology. Robin Meiksins is a contemporary flutist focused on collaboration with living composers. LJ White's music assimilates an array of influences through evocative sonorities and rhythms. Alex Temple writes music that distorts and combines iconic sounds to create new meanings, often in service of surreal, cryptic or fantastical narratives. The Chicago Tribune calls the music of David “Clay” Mettens “a thing of remarkable beauty,” displaying a “sensitive ear for instrumental color.” Phil Pierick is a saxophonist, improviser, singer, and educator. Randall West is a composer, artist, software developer, and leader in arts and technology management. Violist Ammie Brod has worked with composers such as Chaya Czernowin and Kaija Saariaho. The New York Times has hailed Daniel Baer as a pianist who “achieved the often elusive…goal of putting virtuosity at the service of bigger ideas.” Andrew McManus’ Strobe, premiered by the New York Philharmonic, was called “riveting” and “breathless…surging…hazy…sometimes all at once.”
